Bob Burnquist still has it!! Wins Big Air Rail Jam!!

X Games 16 Skateboard Big Air Rail Jam Final

Burnquist Lands First Gold Medal in Skateboard Big Air Rail Jam Final

It pays to have a skateboard ramp in your own backyard as far as Bob Burnquist is concerned, as the skateboard legend took home X Games 16 gold in the Skateboard Big Air Rail Jam Final on Saturday at The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

"What's cool about rail is the show of progression and some of the technical tricks that we can pull off in a little bit of a slower environment while still going fast," said Burnquist. "It's a pretty big gap but there are a lot of opportunities to pull off those tricks."

Always the innovator, Burnquist went with something new, throwing a switch 50/50 in lucky run number seven for the highest score of the night.

Rob Lorfice finished behind Burnquist for the silver and Elliot Sloan landed in third to take the bronze.

Rookie Pedro Barros Grabs HIs First Gold Medal!!

X Games 16 Skateboard Park Men's Final

Rookie Pedro Barros Grabs His First Gold in the Action-Packed Skateboard Park Men's Final

As the five finalists pulled out every trick to top the other in tonight's Skateboard Park Men's Final, the rookie, Pedro Barros of Brazil, completed an exciting backside grab 540 to take the gold medal in his first X Games appearance.

"It's amazing to be at the X Games as a pro skater," said Barros. "I saw Andy ripping it up, and I realized that I needed to step up my routine.  I put all of my tricks into the run and what really helped me was the 540 Vert wall trick."

Air transfers were key to medaling, and Andy Macdonald continually wowed the audience with his gap transfers.  After the third run, Barros and Macdonald were tied for gold; however, Barros' last run, which included great speed, the 540 trick and a frontside tail grab, secured him the number one position.  Macdonald placed second, taking his third consecutive silver medal in Skateboard Park and bringing his total X Games medals to 21.

"This park course is the best one yet.  They opened it up and made the lines so you can keep your speed," said Macdonald. "For me, I will be doing this as long as I am competitive and holding my own against guys half my age."

In his second X Games appearance, Kevin Kowalski's precision skills earned him the bronze medal.

"I have won pro competitions before but this is the X Games," said Kowalski. "I was an alternate since the first day I was invited. I am stoked because I didn't expect to make it this far."

This park has a great bowl section that any bowl rider would love.

Los Angeles, Calif.  Paul Rodriguez finally got the monkey off his back. After becoming the first skateboarder ever to win back-to-back gold in the X Games Skateboarding Street contest in 2005, P-Rod failed to podium for the following two years and was held to second place last year by X Games 14 gold medal winner, Ryan Sheckler. All that changed today, with his commanding win in the Skateboard Street Finals.

SKATEPARK.COM VISITS VOLCOM WHAREHOUSE

Skatepark.com was able to go skate the Volcom whareshouse this weekend.

Thanks to our good buddy Dave we checked out this sick park that Volcom

provides for all there workers.

Do you think you can skate to the top of this Stack?

This wall ride is dirty, and I'm not talking about being clean!

Some really fun transitions and plent of room Volcom did it right even

though it gets some getting use to the park flows pretty good.

This bowl reminds me of the Costa Mesa mini bowl.

Super good and really fast and fun.  I could spend hours

here alone.  Can't wait to go back.

You can see how long and filled the wharehouse is, this section

has some funky transitions but they still work.

This is a great shot of what the wharehouse looks like and

the feel you get when being here.  Super laid back fun and

plenty of stuff to skate and do, thanks Volcom you guys

did it right!  Thanks Dougy B for the pics.

Skatepark.com hits NorCal

Skatepark.com was up in San Jose this last week for Christmas and New Years.  Some of the best skating in my life was up here.  We first hit up the Cunnigham skatepark in San Jose, this place if you haven't heard of it is unreal.  So much stuff to hit you have to spend the whole day there.

No matter what you are into this park will have it for you.  The only complaint I had was that I couldnt find any flat bars that were my height.  I like a bar around 12-14" I know its weak but this park was so good they forgot the low rails. Oh well still worth it. I love the way you can work your way up from a 3ft bowl to full capsule!  It was sick, super fun and worth the drive no matter where you are at.

After skating for hours and recovering from some near disasterous falls.  We headed back to Scotts Valley.   This is where my Mother in law lives, so we can call it home base.  After refueling and doing a little socializing I woke up and hit up the Highland park in Ben Lomand.  This park is super hidden, wouldnt even of know about it but my friend up there lives local and skates it once in a while.

This park is super small but has a sick bowl.  The bowl is worth checking out on its own.  Some fast lines and when I was here the park was completley empty.  The street section is ok but not to many different lines.  Definetly worth stopping by if you are in the area.  Also if the Scotts Valley park is packed you can shoot down here 15min away.

After hanging here for a little while I acctually just filmed didn't really skate much I headed back over to Scotts Valley.  This park is fun and so close to my Home Base that I hit it up a few days in a row.

So after skating my brains out and having some super fun sessions, I decided to head off back to San Jose to this park I heard of called Roosevelt park.  Once I finally found it which took a little detective work, I was pretty stoked.  This park was built right.

Super fun pool bowl, and the big bowl has nice speed hump and great 3 and 4 foot mini half pipe section that was getting a lot of play.

This park is very popular with the locals and everyone was tearing it up, seem like a little older crowd which was fine with me.  Not sure if you want your ten year old hanging in here by himself, un less you like him drinking tall boys..  But I was super glad I checked this place out, it was built in 2008 so everything was new and the park flowed and looked great.  So when you hit up the San Jose area, say hi to my Mother in Law, and go skate these parks they are all worth the drive.  If you want to check out more pictures of them hit up the photo section and I should have a folder with each park listed.  Peace out!

Stereo San Fran trip part 2

Stereo goes to San Fran Part 2

Part 2 of the Stereo San Francisco trip is being brought to you by Stereo's close pal, Isaac McKay-Randozzi.

Sunday and Monday were spent hitting various parts of the City, from ditches in construction sites to flat gaps on the streets, the new skate park, downhill ledges and ‘ski jumps’. Wagner and Pastras found some fun lines at the ditch and Fairfax and Yankou hit the flat gap with relentless legs. Monday morning was spent getting warmed up at the new park. Thanks to the assistance of ‘de la’ and filmer Biggs we found a down downhill ledge where Brian and Lee skated a small ledge as a warm up to the big sucker that’s pictured. After a gentle suggestion of immediate departure by some cops, Brian and Biggs took us to the ‘ski jump’ where everyone flew high and graceful, others not so much.

After the session we relaxed at Club Wazima for some excellent Ethiopian food and cool beverages and to say good-bye to Chris before he split to LA the next morning. In all, footage was logged, fun had and new spots skated.

Beermuda Triangle hits Santa Rosa!

The Beermuda Triangle Skate Park hits Santa Rosa California.  This is what we love to see, one of our dedicated skaters sent this in.  Looks like someone loves beer and skate boarding.  Just goes to show you what a lot of drinking and thinking can get you.  Your own skatepark!!

Looks like a nice mini half pipe which takes you to the Party Spot, which drops you into the long tranny over to the Beermuda hip, that sends you off to the sketchy spine which sends you back over to the mini ramp.  Nice work hopefully our very own Doug B gets a chance to skate this let us know Dougy..

If you have a private park in your back yard that is worthy of Skatepark.com send it to us.  We will give you mad props.

Send all private parks here with location and pictures.  Nando1@skatepark.com

Best skateparks in the U.S.

1.  San Jose Skate Park Lake Cunningham California

This park is amazing, it was built by California Skateparks and Wormoudt this park is 45000 sq feet of fun.The park has some landmark features that are unique to this certain park.  The park offers lesson of all levels, tons of street features and vert plus tons of transitions.  The Full pipe gets tons of exposure and really brings a look to the park that reminds you of Mike Fox park in Santa Cruz.  There are over 8 skateable bowls that will insure a full day of pumping and getting that burn that your thighs deserve.  Plenty of handrails, flat bars and ledges to grind and board slide.  The best part of this park is that you can start at any level.  If you are a beginner hit up the mini bowls if you are a Vert monster the Kidney bowl awaits.  And if you love street there is a section dedicated to you with transitions and ledges of all types.

2.  Goodyear Skatepark in AZ

This park is great for vert and transitions.  If you are a street skater you will not be too pleased.  If you like to strap pads on and test your testies on some real pool like kidney bowls then you are in luck.  This park has some steep sections that will test even the best of the best.  Plenty of room to get speed and bust some of your best airs.  The kidney bowl is set up perfect and feels like a old school pool that has been regroomed.  Definite must of you are in Arizona.

3.  Etnies Skate Park of Lake Forest California

When Etnies decided to sponsor this park they new what they were getting into. This park has it all, rails, ledges, stairs, transitions, pool, and bowls.  You will see some of Californias finest skating this park on a daily basis.  They dont hold the GVR contest here every year for nothing.  If you make it to Socal you must check this park out.

4.  Burnside Skate Park of Portland Oregon

This park is a world know skatepark.  If you haven't heard of Burnside you must have 4 wheels on each foot.  This park has had so much history that it must be mentioned.  If you watch any skate vids this is a sure sight that is seen on plenty of videos. As far as skating it is definetly a different feel here at Burnside, you need to skate it regularly to learn all the lines and really use the park to its full potential.  If you don't skate it at least visit.

5.  Chandler Skate Park in AZ

This park might not be the best but I had to mention it because I have a lot of memories here at this park.  So many fun lines and good skaters show up here regularly.  This park is one of the first real parks in AZ. (besides encanto)  Not a huge street feel but plenty of lines to do.  Ledges are set up great and the couple rails they have are worth hitting.  The 10ft bowl works great and the smaller bowl is a great place to warm up.  If you make it down during the winter to AZ make sure you stop by this park it is a great place to get speed hit some hips and get a full day of skating in.

Chas Ortiz Wins Dew Tour In Salt Lake City

Chaz

Chaz Ortiz has been on quite a streak ever since winning the Free Flow Tour amateur championships in 2007. He came into Salt Lake City for the Toyota Challenge this weekend in third place behind Paul Rodriguez and Ryan Sheckler, and can now boast of having occupied every step of the Dew Tour podium in 2008.

The 14 year-old Dew Tour rookie opened the 2008 AST Dew Tour with a 3rd place finish in Baltimore, then followed it up with a 2nd place finish in Cleveland. Nowhere to go but up, Ortiz claimed is first big Dew Tour win here in Salt Lake City, edging out 2005, 2006, and 2007 Dew Cup champ Ryan Sheckler. You heard that right: Chaz Ortiz just won his first pro contest.

“I guess today was my day,” says Ortiz. Although Sheckler is frequently a crowd favorite on the Dew Tour, skate fans have embraced young Chaz. Skating in front of a capacity crowd inside the Energy Solutions Arena, he put down two of the best runs of his life and dominated the 6-man Finals jam session. “It definitely hypes me up, to hear all the screaming fans and to know that even the guys I’m skating against have my back. It makes me want to skate even harder.”

Dew Tour Skate Park Finals follow a best-of-two run format. The top six skaters after two rounds of skating then face off in a chaotic free-for-all jam session to rack up points with their best tricks.

After Run 1, Ortiz and Sheckler were tied for 1st place, each posting scores of 86.75, with Austen Seaholm, Carlos de Andrade, and Rodolfo Ramos close behind. Ortiz improved his score in Run 2 to 89.75; Sheckler topped him with a score of 92.25.

Austen Seaholm, Greg Lutzka, Carlos De Andrade, and Rodolfo Ramos joined Sheckler and Ortiz for the Finals jam session, but all eyes were on Ortiz as he stuck trick after trick, building confidence over the course of the jam session and showing off his full repertoire of highly technical rail tricks.

Nollie big spin to backside lipslide. Kickflip to frontside boardslide. A big backside kickflip transfer over a hip, just after Sheckler fell on the same trick, for dramatic emphasis. Kickflip to frontside bluntslide. Kickflip to backside lipslide. Backside tailslide to big spin out. And the clincher: Ortiz stuck a kickflip to frontside boardslide to kickflip out, one of the craziest combos ever seen in Dew Tour competition.

“This course really fits me,” says Ortiz. “In practice I was practicing all the tricks I wanted to get in the jam, not just practicing the tricks for my run, because I knew I needed to be able to hang through to the end.”

Ortiz’ jam session score 95.25 destroyed the competition (Sheckler scored just 88.50, third place finisher Ramos scored 88.00), and the crowd went wild. Get ready to hear more from Chaz Ortiz. He’s working on a video part for a new film with Paul Rodriguez, and is prominently featured in the trailer for the new Zoo York video “State of Mind,” due out in 2009.

Sheckler now leads Ortiz by just 8 points in the overall standings as the race for the Dew Cup heads into the 5th and final stop next month in Orlando for the PlayStation Pro. Another 7 points
now separate Ortiz and Paul Rodriguez, making for the tightest competition in Dew Tour history.

“I’m just going to be skating hard, practicing some new tricks, and hoping for another good result,” says Ortiz.

Sheckler Wins Portland stop at the Dew Tour

Sheckler takes his second win at the 2008 Dew Tour in Portland!  With huge tricks and tons of style Sheckler wins Portland and edges out Paul Rodrigez.

After hurting his elbow in Cleveland Ryan gave up 1st place to good friend and teammate Paul Rodrigez "P-Rod".  He needed to come back strong if he wanted to have another DewTour Cup under his belt.

P-Rod is so technical and stylish it is hard to think that anyone can beat him, but Sheckler stepped it up and took the "brass ring" in Portland.“My man Sheckler... you can never count him out,” says P-Rod, Sheckler’s teammate on the Plan B Skateboards team. “He's my good friend and he skated brilliantly today. He's a hard man to beat and he's a great skater, so I'm going to have to work hard if I'm going to maintain this lead. Ideally I'd like to win the next two stops, but hopefully I can get at least one more win and try to solidify this thing.”

Lutzka finally makes it to the podium with a 3rd place finish.  He has been fourth place for the last couple stops and this time in Portland he layed it down for a solid run in 3rd.  Lutzka has to be one of the favorites to watch, he has so much style and is always trying different lines than anyone else.

I love to see Eric Koston making an appearance in Portland this guy is the Man!

The Portland Dew Tour stop is always a great venue, the park layout was typical contest fashion with 3 really good sections.  With P-Rod in the lead still Sheckler is going to have to pull off two more wins to clinche the title.  Next stop is in Utah we should be there so keep checking in for more updates.

STEREO TEAM TAKES A ROAD TRIP TO MINNESOTA

We arrived to Minnesota on Monday night and immediately made our way to Clint's hometown of Stillwater where we were greeted by some of Clint's friends, including London native, Paul Shier. Yesterday, after a night of downtown brews, we went skating in Minneapolis with Steve Nesser. Scattered thunderstorms didn't help too much and by the time we made it to downtown we were being hit by a monsoon. Luckily, we got to skate an indoor garage until some lunatic driving a Mustang kicked us out by threatening to call the cops. The guy threw a water bottle at us as we drove away and that pretty much capped the session. Tonight at 6PM we have the 3rd Lair Burnsville demo and signing. Until next time...
Supa loves signing anything that kids bring him...
On Wednesday we warmed up on some street spots before making it to the 3rd Lair Burnsville demo. The Burnsville park is essentially a skate plaza full of small hubbas, mellow transition, hips, banks and more. Everyone definitely stepped it up at the demo and gave the kids a run for their money. Even Clint's mom and his younger brother Frankie made it out for the show. Yesterday was our day off, so went on a skate mission in Minneapolis and Nesser ended up meeting up with us again. We went to some amazing spots. Big thanks to the 3rd Lair Burnsville crew for all of their help and support and stay tuned for more updates...
Yesterday, the Sound Agents made the journey back home after an amazing week-long stay in the state of 10,000 lakes. The spots we skated throughout our trip were perfect, the art show, signings and demos were a blast, but most importantly, the people we met along the way were incredible! Huge thanks to Clint's mom Karen for letting us stay at her home and making us breakfast. Also, big thanks to 3rd Lair Burnsville, Familia, Cathan and the Vine Arts Center posse, our guide Dana and the entire state of Minnesota. If you ever have a chance to visit, I highly recommend it... except early September, because that's when the Republican National Convention will be taking place. Cheers!
The master and his work, it was a great turn out at the Vine Arts.
This is the best "Stand by Me" Impression yet! These tracks were right next
to Clint's mom's place.
Always suave, Always Shimizu.  Till next time check out more about

X GAMES 14 STREET COURSE

STREET COURSE MENS ELIMINATION WAS HELD TODAY!

All the heavy hitters were here today, this was like the Maloof Money Cup all over again.  It was hotter than a two dollar hooker in Vegas at the Staples Center today.  It felt like I was back home in my desert town of Phoenix.  I don't get how these guys practice for 2hours take a 15min break then come out and skate there hearts out.  No wonder nobody weighs over 150pds.

What do you think Prod is thinking?? "Oh I wonder if I will win another 100,000 dollars this weekend."  He was the winner of the Maloof Money Cup here in Orange County 2weeks ago.  So he is the man to beat, I know Nyjah Huston must of had his little voodoo doll out so he could take down the champ.  Its too bad that he didn't make the cut today he really is one of the best skaters out there.  Especially considering his age of 13years old.

I was saying to myself "self, why isn't Huston having fun?  it looks like he is not feeling well, or maybe he is tired of competing with so much pressure." I don't know but at practice it looked like Nyjah was just going through the motions, he didn't seem to be having fun at all.  In the Elimitnator he tried too many tech tricks and ended up falling short for the finals. Oh well you have plenty of time to win your next Xgames gold.  I think Prod was pretty relieved to see that Huston fell short of the Night Show.

Some of the most effort less skating I watched today was another athlete that didn't make the cut was D Stanton.  He was using the whole park and looked like he was having a good time doing it.  Man who took this picture it is sick!! Oh wait I did.  Those blue pants were really looking good, I better call Volcom and put my order in before back to school hits.

Speaking of not making the cut, good "old" Koston was up to his old tricks.  He was having fun working the crowd as always but just not laying down the heat.  Don't get me wrong he is good and he landed some tricks but in this format with this many guys it was tough to lay down the hammer.  Koston is always great to watch and I'm glad he showed up he is a great skater.

The park layout was pretty sick, XGames did it again with the layout and the format.  Seemed like everyone had plenty of time to figure out some good lines and there was plenty of room which was a bonus.  Besides the boring look the grey floor just made it look so flat.  Plus I wonder how did they get the graphitii, did they just leave it open at night and have some of the L.A. hood come down and get to work?  Non the less it was super good and riders seemed happy.

Ramos was killing it, if I had to pick a winner just out of practice it would be a close call between Sheckler and Ramos.  He was smooth and agressive.  He was hitting everything big with intensity.  2006 Dew Tour winner Ramos has a great chance of taking down the champs.

I almost wet myself when I realized Sheckler's dad was staring me down.  He was dealing with the real life of his son while looking good for the camera.  Ryan is unbelievable to be able to put up with the pressure of his Dad, Life of Ryan and winning a contest.  How does he do it, I used to freak out when my parents watched me play soccer in HighSchool how the heck does he put up with the TV and fans?  He is a true Athlete.

Do yo think Ryan will ever grow his hair out like Adams? I doubt it this is like having The Shaq sitting next to Steve Nash, who I must mind you has been seen wearing Skatepark.com stickers on his back . I'm not sure how they get there but he seems to be a big fan of the site whether he wants to or not.

Speaking of sticker tags, the guy in the cool shades who we will call "Player"  is know for some of the best tags know to man.  Nash hates when this guy is around.  Next on the list, Rob D watch out.  Well I am getting side tracked, the elimination is over and there our 6 riders left.  We have Ryan Sheckler, P-Rod, Greg Lutzka, Rodolfo Ramos, and Jereme Rogers. Chris Cole who won the event last year gets a golden ticket he just has to show up.  Make sure you bring your sunscreen and plenty of water, also do me a favor and don't wear a black shirt it is so hot out here on the floor of the contest and all your black shirts are making me hotter.  Keep checking in for the finals and the Super park finals. Peace

Nando Sarasua

X GAMES 14 IS HERE IN L.A.

The X Games are here!  This weekend starting tomorrow we will have some of the best athletes in the world.

This is the new Superpark that xgames has incorporated into this years events.

The Superpark will consist of 20 athletes who will be broken into four heats of five athletes.  I can't wait to watch this event it should be killer. It is held at the HomeDepot Center in Carson.

I was able to watch some practice sessions and man were these guys tearing it up.  Omar Hassan was using the whole park this backside 5-0 was in plain view for every one to watch.  Omar is one of the 20 athletes who will be competing this weekend.  He is a local skater who is seen skateing many local parks including the Costa Mesa skatepark.

Rune Glifberg was also practicing today.  If I have to lay a bet down on who is going to win this Superparks first contest I would have to say it is gonna be Rune.  This is his 14th XGames appearance, Rune is one of only three skaters-along with Bob Burnquist and Andy Macdonald to compete at each and every XGames.  Even though Rune is the most medaled skater (eight total) he has yet to win a gold..This year is the year RUNE get it..

I have a feeling its going to be a battle between these two Vets.  Omar/Rune! Who do you think will win.  This bowl section was so smooth and built to perfection.  Every skater seemed to love this part, it had a real concrete coping that you would find on any pool bowl.  The course is set up with so many different lines and transitions that it is going to be almost impossible to judge.

Notice the capsule down in the lower left corner?  That thing is going to be used and abused.  Also the snake run on the right is a great addition to the parks layout.  It allows you to gain all sorts of speed from inside the park and from the starting point.  This is gonna be one of the most exciting events to watch. The grandstands are set perfect so everyone has a great view.

Too bad this will only be skated by the pros, this place is sick.  Make sure to check out the XGames this weekend.  For full listings of events and venue information please check out the website www.expn.com.

California Skateparks best in business

California Skateparks builds this perfect skateplaza in 9days. Unfortunatley it must be torn down, but the work was unmistakebly the best in the business.

These guys not only no how to skate they no haw to build parks. Contac California Skateparks for more info.

Prod take it all! Not only was he the most consistent he threw down some monster tricks. Nijah Houston was a close second, I would say it was a tie, but someone has to win. In Vert pro, PLG takes the cash and Shaun White settles for second. For all the updates and winner info click on Maloofmoneycup.com.

The Maloof Money Cup (Click here for contest pictures)

The Maloof Brothers, of the Palm’s Resort and Casino, wanted to get into the skateboarding business so they teamed up with Rob Dyrdek and World Cup Skateboarding to promote the biggest and best skateboard contest of all time. The Maloof brothers really understand creating a grand spektical because they picked the perfect time and the perfect place to throw such an ambitious event in the sports history. Right in the middle of the Orange County Fair on the opening weekend seemed the perfect setting to concur such a feat. Nowhere is skateboarding bigger and more alive than in Southern California. With such a big event at hand the obvious team to design and build the perfect course would be none other than California Skateparks.

California Skateparks (CS) was approached because of their reputation for building the best skateparks in the world. CS said they would be happy to build a skatepark for the biggest skateboarding competition in the world, with one condition, that the skatepark would have to be made completely out of concrete. "What’s so strange about that," you might ask. The skatepark would have to be built in five days used for three and then be torn down immediately after the contest!

Through speculations and rumors we heard that CS had a budget of about two hundred thousand dollars to turn the rodeo arena of the OC fair grounds into what would be called the most beautiful contest parks of all time. At one end of the park there was a perfect vert ramp with equipped with huge transfers and extensions and the main street course looked like a corporate plaza at a Wells Fargo building. We did our best at skatepark.com to take pictures of this park but truly it has to be said that you would have to see this thing to believe it! There were some great stairs sets, hubba ledges, rails, pyramids, and gaps. Everything was pro sized especially the 16 set staircase and rail in the center of the course and when the pros got down to the finals they throw everything at this feature but the kitchen sink (most notably Nyjah Houston’s bigspin kickflip lipslide). One of the most unique parts about the street course was that it was even equipped with running water in a fountain!

Fortunately CBS was there capturing all of the action when the best skateboarders in the world in both street and vert went head to head. The level of competition was like nothing any of us have ever seen in one place. So make sure you catch this action on TV and keep your fingers crossed that there will be a Maloof Money Cup again next year. The only thing we can hope for next time is that they build a skatepark in a local town where it won’t get torn up after the contest. There are a lot of skaters out there who would love to ride a course like this for years to come.
